Heavy winds can do a lot of damage to your home. They can also make it uncomfortable to be outside, and make it feel colder in the winter. You might think that there isn’t anything you can do to change that situation, but with some time and planning, you could drastically change the amount of wind that you experience.

How can you accomplish that? By planting a windbreak. A windbreak usually consists of a row of trees that are tall enough to divert winds over your home. This means that they need to be at a distance between 3 and 5 times the height of your house to be effective. A common method to achieve a quick respite is to plant 2 rows of trees. One row of quick growing trees that will be effective sooner, and a second row of trees that will last much longer. You should use trees that won’t lose their leaves in the winter, otherwise they will only be effective for half the year.
